Photoshoot - Umbrellas!

Hey all!

We will be hosting our first photoshoot this Saturday with the theme of Umbrellas! Interpret the theme however you like (lighting + umbrella, umbrella as a prop, etc).

Here are the details!

Date: September 26th, 2009 (Saturday)
Time: 12:30pm (slight time change!)
Location: Meet at SF Atrium (don’t be late!) –> We will then go to High Park
What to bring: An umbrella! (or two, or three if you want) + we also encourage you to bring a random, unpredictable prop (last year we brought a stuffed animal to a bunch of our shoots!).

Transportation Photography Competition Winners!

Hi all,

On behalf of iTrans, sponsor of the Transportation Photography Competition, we are pleased to announce the winners to the Transportation Photography Competition! We had a total of 293 entries from 38 contestants. Photos were judged for their transportation relevance, visual impact, artistic merit, and photographic quality.

The winners are:

First Place: Underwater Tunnel in Shanghai by Yinsey Wang

Second Place: TTC on Spadina by Richard Tang

Third Place: Toronto Highway by Andrew Brown & Andrea Black

Congratulations to all winners! ITrans will contact the winners by email about their corresponding $150, $75 and $50 Gift Certificates to Henry’s!

Family Service Toronto Project

The Engineering Photography Club is currently working with Family Service Toronto to help them in a couple of events prior to Family Day. As a significant part of these events, Family Service Toronto would like our photographers to help them capture family portraits of families and print a copy of the photo to theses families on the spot. We will also be helping them build up photos that they can use in their website as well as for their Family Day event. Those wanting to know more about Family Service Toronto can visit their site here.

We would like to ask any interested photographer to come to our meeting on Friday (January 16th, 2009) at 6:30pm. The location of the meeting is BA 2139. Volunteers can help us with the logistics of the event, take photos of participants of the events, as well as helping out with the editing of the photos. More information this project will be given out during the meeting.

Competition Tech Problem: Solved!

For those who have been experiencing problems with their submissions to our Transportation Photography Contest. Split your submissions to a maximum of 10 MB per email. This will allow the submissions to go through iTrans’ system.

“Failures” during the submission to the photography contest

Hi all,

The EPC has been receiving emails regarding submissions that have been rejected by photocontest@itransconsulting.com. Those who are affected should not worry, as we will extend the deadline of the submissions until this problem is resolved. The EPC is working with iTrans’ tech department to fix this issue. We will keep everyone posted. Do check our website for further updates.

If you are a photographer who has been affected by this problem, please drop an email to photography@skule.ca to let us know.

Clarification on Photography Competition

Hi all,

The Engineering Photography Club and iTrans (sponsor of the Transportation Photography Competition) would like to clarify the rules of the competition. While the wording of the rules may seem like photographers do not retain their rights to their photos, iTrans has asked us to clarify this point. iTrans would like to clarifty that the rules were just to grant iTrans the right to publish the photography submitted. It does not in any way take away the ownership of the photograph from the photographer. We would like to clarify this message to all members of the EPC, especially those who have submitted their photographs.

We would also like to encourage those who have not yet submitted their photos to do so soon : ) The deadline of December 21st is coming!

The Engineering Photography Club and iTrans (one of Canada’s largest Engineering firms specializing in transportation planning and engineering) are hosting EPC’s first ever Photography Competition!

The theme is Transportation, and it just needs to be broadly transportation related. More information can be found on the Photography Competition page.

Off-Camera Lighting Workshop by Darryl Cheng

Some of you may remember the one or two pictures that we used in our second meeting to illustrate how lighting can affect photography. One of our members, Darryl Cheng, is an expert in the field of wireless/off-camera flash.

The Engineering Photography Club will be holding a tutorial (class) especially for amateur and experienced photographers to really get to understand how wireless/off camera flash works. Beginners, feel free to join us too!

Date: November 7, 2008 (Friday)

Time: 4-5pm (will run longer if necessary)

Meetup on October 17, 2008 (Pre-Distillery District)

We’re going to be having a meetup this Friday!

Details:

Day: Friday (October 17th).

Location: BA Mega Bites (By the Washroom)

Time: 5-7pm

Experienced members, bring your cameras and your experience! I’m going to be talking about portraiture and lighting (going to be useful for those who are going on Saturday, also useful for those who aren’t going!). Help the beginners who are going to be there too! : )

Beginners, bring your pen and paper! We’ll be giving you some cool tips about photography : )

I’ll try to find some useful links (especially for post-processing-a.k.a Photoshop).

Have a portrait to share? I’m looking for something that was taken that really captured emotion or was done in low lighting. If you have anything like that, send it to photography[at]skule.ca and we’ll include it in the talk on Friday. We’ll ask you to share how you managed to get the shot! Send it to us ASAP!

Have photos (esp. portraits) that you don’t know how you can improve? Send it to us too! We’ll ask the whole group about their opinions about how to improve your shot!
